Meknès Hosts the 18th International Agricultural Exhibition: A Showcase of Sustainability and Cooperation

Celebrating Agricultural Innovation and Sustainability at SIAM 2026

On April 20, 2026, Meknès marked the opening of the 18th International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), a significant event that emphasizes the importance of the agricultural sector for the economic development of the Kingdom and the broader Maghreb region. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Prince Moulay Rachid on the grounds of Mechouar Stinia-Sahrij Souani, representing King Mohammed VI. This year's exhibition, which runs until April 28, 2026, is centered around the theme of "Sustainability in Animal Production and Food Sovereignty," addressing urgent global and regional challenges such as climate change and long-term food security.

According to the state news agency MAP, the thematic focus of this year's exhibition highlights Morocco's commitment to making its agricultural sector more resilient and competitive. Key issues include enhancing the economic performance of livestock operations and advancing animal health and welfare. Spanning approximately 37 hectares, SIAM 2026 has attracted impressive international participation, with 70 countries represented and Portugal featured as the guest of honor. This selection underscores the dynamic bilateral relations between Rabat and Lisbon, particularly in agricultural cooperation.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

The scale of this exhibition is remarkable, with over 1,500 exhibitors, 45 foreign delegations, and around 200 breeders participating, making it a central forum for decision-makers, professionals, and international partners. Organizers anticipate over 1.1 million visitors by the end of the event, reinforcing SIAM's status as a global hub for agricultural discourse.

One of the exhibition's key pillars is the enhancement of Moroccan agricultural heritage. During the opening, Prince Moulay Rachid awarded quality certificates and geographical indications to various cooperatives, recognizing products such as the "Amendes de Ghassate" from the Draa-Tafilalet region and "Extra Virgin" olive oil from El Kelâa des Sraghna.

With the participation of approximately 500 cooperatives, the social aspect of agriculture is emphasized. However, modernity also plays a crucial role: pavilions showcasing agricultural digitization and technological innovations present solutions aimed at enhancing production efficiency and sustainability through technical support.

Thus, SIAM 2026 serves not only as a showcase for products but as a strategic platform. In an environment increasingly characterized by climatic uncertainties, the exhibition provides a necessary space for discussions on resource-efficient methods and international collaboration to sustainably strengthen food stability in the region.
