Meknes Shines at National Reading Competition
The city of Meknes has made a remarkable mark in the inaugural edition of the national reading competition, "Maroc Cap’Lecture," dedicated to reading in French. The event saw Meknes secure the top position in two out of four categories, thanks to the outstanding performances of students Anir Boutskaouin, representing the public postal education group, and Nada Rahmouni from the private Mamounia schools. This achievement not only highlights individual talent but also showcases the quality of education available in both public and private institutions within the city.
Anir Boutskaouin emerged victorious in the second category aimed at the final three years of primary education, exemplifying the capabilities of students attending public schools. Meanwhile, Nada Rahmouni claimed first place in the third category, which caters to middle school students, further solidifying Meknes' reputation in the competition. These accolades reflect the students' exceptional skills and passion for reading, which were celebrated during a national event that emphasized the importance of reading and performance quality.
Encouraging a Culture of Reading
The announcement of the winners concluded the first edition of the competition, organized by the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports in collaboration with several institutions, including the French Development Agency and the French Institute in Morocco. The competition attracted a wide national participation, with 821,342 students enrolling to compete across four categories spanning primary, middle, and secondary education. Participants underwent various local, regional, and national elimination rounds leading up to the finals held in Rabat.
This initiative is aimed at promoting a culture of reading within educational institutions while enhancing students' linguistic skills and their abilities in comprehension, analysis, expression, critical thinking, and creativity. The success of Anir Boutskaouin, a student from a public educational institution, is a testament to the hard work of both students and educators, emphasizing the importance of fostering an encouraging environment for reading and learning. Such an environment helps in discovering talents and honing their skills, ultimately paving the way for broader opportunities in national competitions.
