Demand for Firm Action Against Morocco
Juan José Imbroda, the President of Melilla, has expressed urgent demands for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to adopt a more assertive and decisive stance regarding Morocco. Imbroda emphasizes the importance of maintaining direct communication with the neighboring country, insisting that Spain should demand loyalty, firmness, and reciprocity from Morocco. He has been vocal about the need for a robust dialogue, advocating that the Spanish government should not simply offer cooperation while receiving inadequate responses from Rabat. "You cannot just keep giving and receive nothing in return but disdain and setbacks," he stated, attributing much of the current border issues to Morocco's actions and referencing the mass movement of Moroccan citizens towards Spain.

Imbroda has also criticized the central government for neglecting the economic needs of Ceuta and Melilla when implementing certain measures that directly impact these autonomous cities. He argues that the unique circumstances of both territories must be taken into account and has called for improved coordination between the national government and the local administrations of Ceuta and Melilla. Furthermore, he has demanded that Sánchez ensure unwavering state support for the cities in terms of security, particularly in light of potential incidents similar to those observed in Ceuta in late July. Imbroda insists that should such situations arise again, the state must be prepared to deploy all necessary resources to safeguard the security and territorial integrity of the autonomous cities. He has also criticized the central government's handling of the crisis in Ceuta, suggesting that Sánchez appears "knocked out" by the ongoing situation and has failed to engage opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo in discussions surrounding this critical issue, which he believes should be treated as a matter of state affecting national security.
