Minister's Tour Highlights Heritage Preservation Efforts
On Tuesday, April 7, Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco's Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, embarked on an extensive field tour that encompassed several historical and archaeological landmarks in Marrakech and its surroundings. This initiative aims to monitor the ongoing projects dedicated to the protection of national heritage. The minister commenced his tour at the heritage interpretation centers located at 'Bab Ailan' and 'Bab Ghamat,' where he engaged with innovative educational programs designed to bring history closer to visitors while emphasizing the significance of preserving cultural heritage through modern and interactive methods.
During his visit, the minister made a significant stop at the historical site of 'Aghmat,' recognized as one of Morocco's oldest urban centers, before proceeding to the stunning 'El Badi Palace' and 'Bahia Palace.' These sites exemplify the magnificence of traditional Moroccan architecture and its creativity throughout the ages. Furthermore, the visit included a direct follow-up on the restoration and maintenance work at sites affected by the Al Haouz earthquake, where the minister assessed the progress of the work and the techniques employed to ensure the preservation of the historical and architectural identity of these landmarks.
This series of actions falls within a national strategy aimed at enhancing the value of national heritage, supporting cultural tourism, and ensuring the transmission of this heritage to future generations, which contributes to strengthening Moroccan identity and solidifying its status on both civilizational and cultural fronts.
