MKU Limited Expands Operations in Morocco

India-based defence technology firm MKU Limited has announced plans to set up a new manufacturing facility in Morocco’s SGZID Zone, located in Nouasser. This strategic investment aims to produce advanced electro-optics and armour solutions tailored for both the local and broader African markets. While specific details regarding the facility's precise location, scale, timeline, and investment are yet to be disclosed, the announcement marks a significant step in enhancing the company's operational footprint in the region.

The establishment of this facility signals a deepening partnership between MKU and the Moroccan armed forces, a collaboration that has flourished over the past five years. During this period, MKU has successfully supplied a range of optronics and personal protection products to the Moroccan military. The new manufacturing site is expected to localize a portion of these activities, thereby reinforcing MKU's commitment to the Moroccan market.

The factory will focus on products from MKU's prestigious Netro Optronics and Kavro Protection lines. The Netro Optronics range boasts sophisticated multi-sensor electro-optic systems designed for situational awareness, surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition. Meanwhile, the Kavro Protection line encompasses essential equipment such as body armour, ballistic helmets, shields, and armouring solutions for various platforms.

In addition to manufacturing, MKU has emphasized that the Moroccan facility will facilitate the transfer of production capabilities and technical expertise to the local workforce. This initiative is poised to generate skilled employment opportunities for Moroccan engineers, technicians, and manufacturing experts. Furthermore, local production will enable MKU to offer faster delivery times, enhanced flexibility, and improved after-sales services, which are crucial for meeting the needs of customers in Morocco.

Strengthening Defence Cooperation Between Morocco and India

This announcement aligns with the growing defence relationship between Morocco and India. Notably, on September 8, the two nations convened for the inaugural meeting of their Joint Defence Committee in New Delhi. Discussions during this meeting explored various aspects of defence, including military training, peacekeeping operations, joint exercises, medical cooperation, and cyber defence initiatives. Both countries also expressed a mutual interest in exploring co-production agreements, joint ventures, technology collaboration, and maintenance and sustainment strategies.

The dialogue was further bolstered by a defence cooperation agreement signed in September 2025, which established a framework for collaboration across multiple facets of defence, including military training and capacity building. MKU's Moroccan facility is poised to serve as a pivotal base for exporting products across Africa, extending the company’s international manufacturing reach into North Africa. Currently, MKU maintains manufacturing and operational facilities in countries such as India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, alongside a European Centre of Excellence situated in Germany.

Products manufactured at the new facility in Morocco are expected to be made available to partner forces throughout Africa and Europe, thereby enhancing MKU's global presence. Karan Gupta, Vice President for International Sales, expressed optimism that this facility would solidify the company's five-year engagement with Morocco into a long-term industrial commitment, reinforcing the significance of this strategic partnership.
