Mokwina Selects Wydad to Kickstart Journey with Libyan Union

Mokwina's Preparations with Libyan Union

In a significant move, the Libyan Union Football Club has chosen to conduct its preparatory camp in the city of Jeddah as part of its strategic preparations for crucial phases of the Libyan Premier League season. Under the guidance of their new South African coach, Rulani Mokwena, the team is setting the stage for a competitive comeback. This training camp will span ten days and features two friendly matches; the first against Maghreb de Fès on March 24 and the second against Wydad Athletic Club on March 28.

According to the Executive Director of the Libyan Union, Engineer Abdelmajid Saleh, this camp is crucial for assessing the team's performance and readiness ahead of the league's decisive matches. Notably, these matches will mark Mokwena's first official tests with the Libyan team. Previously, Wydad was scheduled to play two postponed fixtures against both Fath Rabat and Hassania Agadir, but the club opted out due to having over three players on national duty, leading to the cancellation of those matches by the National Professional Football League.

Strategic Goals and Historical Context

The coaching staff aims to enhance the players' physical and technical readiness while also evaluating both individual and team preparedness before they return to competitive action. Furthermore, there is a focus on fostering better synergy among the players and refining tactical elements as the season approaches its critical juncture.

Historically, the Libyan Union is one of the most decorated clubs in the local league, boasting 18 championships. The current campaign aims to reclaim the title that has eluded them for four seasons, driven by a fresh strategic vision under Mokwena's leadership. The club has already secured its spot in the league's final six after topping Group B with a comfortable lead of 32 points, well ahead of its closest rivals with several matches still remaining in the group stage.

As the league's structure dictates, the top three teams from each of the four groups will advance to the final six, forming two groups (Eastern and Western). However, the Libyan Union has yet to finalize the format to determine the champion of the ongoing season.
