Significant Growth in Air Traffic at Moroccan Airports
The summer season of 2026 has marked a remarkable transformation in air travel dynamics at Moroccan airports, previously overseen by the National Airports Office. This season has witnessed historic levels of passenger numbers across various airports in the kingdom, showcasing a structural growth trend that is becoming increasingly evident.
According to a statement from "Moroccan Airports", these summer peaks are part of a growth trajectory that has now become structural in nature. Notably, Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport recorded a historic milestone during the first weekend of August, welcoming an impressive 46,439 travelers within a single day.
This escalating pace of activity is reflected across the national airports. Marrakech Menara Airport surpassed the threshold of 30,000 passengers in one day, while Rabat-Salé Airport received 9,226 travelers in a single day. Agadir-Al Massira Airport registered 11,973 passengers during one of its peak days, and Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport welcomed 13,309 travelers.
The highest growth rates were observed at the airports in Dakhla and Tetouan, which saw increases of 45.2% and 36.14%, respectively, during peak air traffic periods.
These summer peaks occur within a context of sustained growth. Following a record-breaking year in 2025, where national air traffic exceeded 36.3 million passengers, this momentum continues, underscoring the growing role of airports in enhancing the openness and attractiveness of the kingdom.
The ability to accommodate the increasing number of travelers while maintaining high operational performance is a key focus of the transformation initiated under the "Airports 2030" strategy. This expansion of capacity, modernization of infrastructure, digitalization of services, and improvement of passenger flows prepares the network for the forthcoming stages of growth.
The statement also highlighted that this impressive performance relies on the collective mobilization of various components within the airport ecosystem. In addition to "Moroccan Airports", the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the General Directorate of National Security, the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration, the Royal Gendarmerie, and Royal Air Maroc are all collaborating to manage peak travel periods by pooling their expertise and resources.
"Moroccan Airports" confirmed its commitment to evolving alongside this new scale of air traffic, with an ambition aimed at sustainably enhancing the capacity of the airport network, accelerating air connectivity, and making airport performance a critical factor in boosting Morocco's international appeal.
