Significant Growth in Moroccan Airport Traffic
The Moroccan aviation sector is witnessing a remarkable surge, with airports across the country recording a total of 18.8 million passengers in the first half of 2026. This figure represents an impressive 8.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, primarily driven by a substantial rise in international travel. According to the latest statistics released by the National Airports Office (ONDA), the country's airports welcomed 18,831,461 travelers from January to June of this year, highlighting the resilience and growth of Morocco's air transportation industry.
International passenger traffic accounted for the majority of this growth, with 16,835,752 passengers recorded, marking an increase of 8.86%. Domestic travel also saw a notable uptick, with 1,995,709 passengers, reflecting an 8.6% rise. The Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca continues to dominate as the primary airport in the Kingdom, serving 5,756,388 passengers, an increase of 10.13%. Following closely are Marrakech-Ménara Airport with 5,636,776 passengers, Agadir-Al Massira with 1,878,974, Tangier Ibn Battouta with 1,402,756, and Rabat-Salé with 1,217,574 passengers.
International Traffic Dynamics and Operational Efficiency
In June alone, Moroccan airports welcomed 3,116,576 passengers, which is a 5.83% increase compared to June 2025. The European market remains the driving force behind international air traffic, contributing over 14 million travelers, a 9% increase year-on-year. Notably, routes connecting Morocco with Africa grew by 15.23%, attracting 971,193 passengers, while North America recorded a 15.46% increase with 461,695 passengers. The connections with Maghreb countries also saw an 11% growth, with 244,069 travelers. Furthermore, there was a remarkable 34.31% increase in traffic from South America, totaling 53,807 passengers.
Conversely, routes to the Middle and Far East experienced a decline of 5.66%, with 1,044,129 passengers. Operationally, Moroccan airports reported a total of 138,353 aircraft movements by the end of June, reflecting a 9.65% increase from the previous year. Among these movements, Mohammed V Airport accounted for 45,824, followed by Marrakech-Ménara with 36,795 and Agadir-Al Massira with 12,962. Additionally, air freight also showed positive growth, with 57,828 tons processed in the first half of the year, marking a 12.3% increase year-on-year.
