Major Drug Seizure at Tangier Med Port
In a significant operation, Moroccan security services successfully confiscated 33.4 kilograms of cocaine at the Tangier Med port, located in northern Morocco. This operation, which took place on April 22, involved cocaine originating from Ecuador, as reported by security sources. The illicit substance was discovered concealed within the refrigeration unit of a metal container that was en route to an Italian port. Authorities found the cocaine meticulously packed into 30 separate packages, highlighting the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers.
Investigation Underway as Part of Ongoing Anti-Drug Efforts
Following this seizure, the Judicial Police have initiated an investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor's office. The objective is to unravel the details and connections of the criminal network involved in this international drug trafficking attempt. As of now, no arrests have been made, indicating that the investigation is still in its early stages. This operation is part of Morocco's ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking, which have proven to be quite rigorous in recent years. In fact, during 2025, Moroccan authorities reported the confiscation of 170.7 tons of cannabis and its derivatives, alongside 1.7 tons of cocaine, 5.9 kilograms of heroin, and an astonishing 1.6 million pills of psychotropic substances. These statistics reflect Morocco's commitment to tackling the drug trade and maintaining security within its borders.
