The Moroccan Cinematic Center's Festival Support Committee has approved a significant financial allocation of 26 million and 460 thousand dirhams for the benefit of 40 national film festivals and cinematic events, following a three-day meeting held at the center's headquarters in Rabat.
Between July 21 and 23, the committee convened to review 55 submission files and engaged with festival organizers as they presented their projects and advocated for their initiatives, according to a statement issued by the Moroccan Cinematic Center.
Marrakech and Tangier Lead the Pack
At the forefront of the beneficiaries is the Marrakech International Film Festival, which is set to hold its 23rd edition, receiving a generous funding of 12 million dirhams. Following closely is the 26th edition of the National Film Festival in Tangier, organized by the Moroccan Cinematic Center, endowed with 7 million and 500 thousand dirhams in support.
Additionally, the 31st edition of the Tetouan Mediterranean Film Festival has been granted 1 million and 200 thousand dirhams, while the 19th edition of the International Women's Film Festival in Salé has received 1 million dirhams in funding.
Gradual Support for Numerous Events
The remaining funds have been distributed across various cinematic events throughout the kingdom, including:
- 800 thousand dirhams for the 31st International Author Cinema Festival in Rabat
- 480 thousand dirhams for the 15th Maghreb International Film Festival in Oujda
- 300 thousand dirhams each for the 20th International Film Festival across the Desert in Zagora and the 4th International Mountain Cinema Festival in Ouzoud
- 250 thousand dirhams for the 15th International Shared Memory Cinema Festival in Nador
- 200 thousand dirhams each for the 22nd International Cinema and Migration Festival in Agadir and the 11th International Film Schools Festival in Tetouan
Other festivals benefited from funding ranging between 50 thousand and 170 thousand dirhams, including the Cine Plage Festival in Harhoura, the Marrakech Short Film Festival, the National Amateur Film Festival in Settat, the International Cinema and Sea Festival in Mir Left, the International Comedy Film Festival in Rabat, and various festivals in Sidi Kacem, Tangier, Casablanca, Fez, Imouzzer Kandar, Kelaat Mgouna, Khouribga, Agadir, Ouarzazate, Taza, Tiznit, Oujda, Rabat, Ben Guerir, and El Jadida.
Moreover, three additional minor events received symbolic support of 30 thousand dirhams each, namely the Global Cedar Short Film Festival in Azrou-Ifrane, the Arab World Educational Short Film Festival in Casablanca, and the Tamansourt Film Festival.
The committee was chaired by Khadija Alami Al-Roussi, with the participation of other members: Sabah Al-Faisali, Malika Ma’a Al-Aynayn, Asma Karimash, Iman Al-Masbahi, Ahmed Afash, Bouazza Bouchtawi, and Mohamed Al-Missi, who deliberated over the submission files before announcing the final results of the support.
This annual support reflects the Moroccan Cinematic Center's policy aimed at promoting cultural and cinematic dynamism across various regions of the kingdom and supporting the associations and institutions that organize these events, which contribute to invigorating the national cinematic scene and bringing the seventh art closer to the Moroccan audience.
