Moroccan Court Upholds Sentences for Senegalese Supporters Amid Diplomatic Efforts for Their Release

Justice System Confirms Sentences for Senegalese Supporters

The situation concerning the Senegalese supporters detained in Morocco following the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN-2025) final has taken a significant turn. The Moroccan judicial system has maintained a strict stance, yet there is a glimmer of hope for some of the detainees. The Rabat Court of Appeal has upheld the sentences initially handed down to 18 Senegalese supporters involved in this case, thereby solidifying the original judgments and extinguishing any hopes for a general reduction of penalties for the affected individuals.

Amidst this judicial rigor, however, a favorable outcome appears to be emerging for three of the supporters: Abdoulaye Dieng, Ibrahima Diop, and Aziz Wade, who are nearing the end of their three-month prison sentences. Their anticipated release is set for April 18, marking a pivotal moment in this sensitive case. According to their attorney, Me Patrick Kabou, arrangements are already in place to facilitate their return to Senegal. "There is an organization in place through the Consul General and the Ambassador to ensure the safe return of our three compatriots who will be released on Saturday," he stated. This diplomatic mobilization underscores the commitment of Senegalese authorities to monitor this case closely.
