Moroccan Economy Shows Positive Growth Amid Global Challenges

On March 12, 2026, during the opening of a government council meeting, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch asserted that the Moroccan economy recorded positive developments in 2025, despite the ongoing global economic fluctuations and geopolitical crises that continue to cast shadows over international markets. Akhannouch emphasized that Morocco's experience has transformed challenges into genuine opportunities for reform, thanks to a clear strategic vision shaped by royal directives and government choices that have made economic recovery a fundamental entry point for establishing the foundations of a social state.

The Prime Minister highlighted that several international rating agencies have given positive evaluations of the Moroccan economy. Notably, Moody's upgraded Morocco's credit rating outlook from 'Stable' to 'Positive', citing improved growth forecasts, enhanced investment dynamics, and ongoing structural reforms aimed at diversifying the economy and improving budgetary performance.

Furthermore, the economic indicators recorded at the end of 2025 reflect this improvement. Inflation was controlled at around 0.8%, the budget deficit was reduced to 3.5%, and public debt was lowered to 67.2%. Additionally, foreign direct investments reached an unprecedented level of 56 billion dirhams, marking a historic milestone for Morocco.

These indicators led to an economic growth rate of 4.8% in 2025, reaffirming the resilience of the national economy in the face of crises. Looking ahead to 2026, the Prime Minister indicated that forecasts suggest the continuation of economic recovery for the fifth consecutive year, bolstered by improved performance in non-agricultural sectors and exceptional growth projected for the agricultural sector, which is expected to reach around 15%. This growth is attributed to recent rainfall that will enhance the productivity of key agricultural production chains, including grains and livestock.

The government has also announced that in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, state administrations and local communities will be given a holiday. Akhannouch concluded the government council session by highlighting the positive developments in the Moroccan economy.
