Moroccan Woman Detained in Istanbul Under Interpol Red Notice

The Turkish authorities have successfully apprehended a woman in Istanbul, located at the scenic Bosphorus Strait, who was wanted by Moroccan security officials. This arrest was executed under a Red Notice issued by Interpol due to her alleged involvement in drug trafficking, according to reports from Anadolu Agency.

Authorities from the Istanbul Directorate of Security's Drug Crimes Unit, in collaboration with intelligence officers, conducted surveillance operations that led to the identification of the 36-year-old suspect in the Avcılar district. She is expected to be extradited to Moroccan authorities following the completion of legal formalities.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had attempted to smuggle drugs out of the country by swallowing them in capsule form, employing her sister and close friends in this illicit operation. These accomplices had previously been arrested in various countries during separate law enforcement actions. Upon her arrest, the suspect was transferred to a center for foreign nationals following legal procedures.

The Interpol Red Notice serves as an international request directed at all member states of the criminal police organization to locate and detain a person wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence based on a valid arrest warrant or court ruling from the requesting country. The issuance of such notices enables authorities at border crossings and checkpoints across member nations to identify wanted individuals promptly. Once apprehended, the arresting state must communicate with the requesting country through diplomatic and legal channels to initiate the extradition process in accordance with bilateral treaties and relevant laws governing such operations.
