Moroccan Journalist Ali Lmrabet Released After Investigation

Ali Lmrabet Freed from Custody Following Investigative Review

In a significant development from Casablanca, the Crown Prosecutor at the Casablanca Criminal Court announced on Wednesday that journalist Ali Lmrabet has been released after a thorough review of procedural documents and completion of the investigation. This decision comes after the Public Prosecution Office conducted the necessary technical expertise and determined that there were sufficient grounds to release Lmrabet, who had been in custody since his arrest at Tangier Airport on Sunday.

The Crown Prosecutor's statement detailed the legal process that led to Lmrabet's release, emphasizing that he was interrogated in accordance with the law and was afforded all the rights and guarantees entitled to him, including a medical examination. During this process, the Public Prosecution Office carefully evaluated the allegations against him, which stemmed from his publication of digital content that allegedly contained defamatory remarks against individuals and institutions, as well as derogatory statements concerning legally established entities.

Moreover, the statement indicated that the investigation would continue to explore the circumstances surrounding Lmrabet's actions. As part of the release, he will also have the items seized during his arrest, which include two computers, a flash drive, and a mobile phone, returned to him. The Crown Prosecutor reassured that appropriate legal actions will be determined once the ongoing investigation is fully concluded.
