Moroccan Journalists' Union Condemns Unacceptable Demands from Impostors

The regional representative of the National Union of Moroccan Journalists in the Marrakech-Safi region, Moulay Abdel Wahid Talbi, has vehemently condemned an article published on a news website that calls on local authorities to provide sacrificial lambs to self-proclaimed "reporters." Talbi characterized this demand as a serious and unacceptable affront to the professional status and social standing of legitimate journalists, describing the content of the publication as nothing short of "begging and soliciting," which undermines the dignity of the profession and its ethical principles.

The union leader emphasized that the National Union of Moroccan Journalists, as the most representative body in the sector, disassociates itself from such reckless behaviors exhibited by a group that exploits privileges and impersonates journalists. He clarified that journalism is a regulated profession governed by clear laws, supported by foundational bodies that ensure the protection of the basic rights of all its members. Talbi firmly stated that there are no professionals among them who find themselves "without sustenance or standing at the doors of charity begging."

Talbi called upon the Wali of Marrakech-Safi, Khalid Lahbil, to enforce the law and conduct a thorough investigation into the identities of those who approach the local authorities claiming to represent journalists without any official status or representation. He also urged the administration to halt any distribution of public funds under the pretext of assisting "unpaid reporters," declaring that the union reserves the right to take legal measures against anyone involved in defaming the media sector or promoting a distorted image that tarnishes the reputation of its workers.
