Moroccan Rapper Baby Gang Denied House Arrest in Italy
Renowned Moroccan rapper Baby Gang, whose real name is Zaccaria Mouhib, has been in custody in Italy since March on serious charges, including possession of weapons and allegations of abusing his girlfriend. Recent reports from Il Giornale d’Italia confirm that his request for house arrest has been denied as of October 5.
The 25-year-old rapper was arrested on March 17 following an in-depth investigation by Lecco prosecutors. Judge Gianluca Piantadosi, who presided over the case, has expressed concern regarding the potential for Mouhib to interfere with the ongoing investigation. The judge indicated that Mouhib's release could pose a risk of him influencing his associates to tamper with evidence or hide illegal weapons, and further alleged that he has connections to "large-scale criminal networks". The judge characterized Mouhib as "completely unreliable," affirming the decision to keep him in custody.
Prior to his current detention, Mouhib faced legal issues when, in September 2025, a police raid in a Milan hotel room uncovered an illegally possessed pistol, which had its serial number removed. Following that incident, he was placed in a treatment facility under electronic surveillance until his latest arrest.
In defense of his client, lawyer Niccolò Vecchioni has filed an appeal against the allegations of criminal associations, asserting that Mouhib is in need of treatment for psychiatric issues and substance abuse problems. The ongoing legal battle highlights the complexities surrounding the case, and it remains a subject of public interest as the rapper's situation unfolds.
