On Thursday, Morocco and the Czech Republic reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to enhance their bilateral relations, aspiring to establish a strategic partnership that builds upon an unprecedented momentum observed in recent times. This significant ambition was voiced during discussions held in Rabat between Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, and Petr Macinka, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, who is currently on an official visit to Morocco.
During their talks, both ministers acknowledged that the bilateral relations have attained a commendable level of maturity and have acquired strategic importance across a multitude of sectors. They emphasized their mutual commitment to fostering a structured strategic partnership, which is firmly rooted in decades of diplomatic relations and aligning interests. To this end, they reiterated their resolve to maintain a consistent and profound political dialogue that spans crucial international issues as well as vital areas of cooperation such as security, economy, defense, energy, migration, culture, and tourism. Additionally, both parties agreed to sustain the recent momentum of high-level visits and economic missions, which are pivotal in strengthening their collaboration.
Bourita and Macinka welcomed the advancements made since the 2023 Prague Joint Declaration, which has significantly broadened the scope of bilateral cooperation, reflecting a robust convergence of views between the two nations. Both sides expressed their intentions to further cultivate cooperation in high-value strategic sectors, including healthcare and pharmaceuticals, science and innovation, water management, infrastructure, automotive industry, smart cities, aerospace, cybersecurity, innovative transport, digitalization, and railways. Moreover, they are keen to explore industrial co-development opportunities in areas such as defense, mining, agri-food industries, renewable energy, and agriculture, which are essential for mutual growth.
Furthermore, the ministers underscored the importance of convening the inaugural session of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission in Prague this year, which they perceive as a vital mechanism for translating their ambitious plans into tangible outcomes. On the security front, both parties celebrated the enhancement of military cooperation, noting that the military agreement signed in October 2024, once ratified, is set to unveil new opportunities in defense industries, training, joint exercises, and technical cooperation.
The Czech Republic also commended Morocco’s designation as a co-host of the FIFA World Cup 2030 alongside Spain and Portugal, highlighting the potential of this prestigious event to significantly contribute to the kingdom's development while providing opportunities for Czech enterprises. Additionally, Prague acknowledged Morocco’s influential role in Africa, particularly through initiatives spearheaded by King Mohammed VI aimed at fostering peace, stability, and socio-economic development across the continent. Notably, it recognized the Royal Initiative designed to facilitate Sahel countries' access to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Atlantic African States Process.
At an international level, the Czech Republic lauded Morocco’s constructive engagement in the Middle East and commended King Mohammed VI’s personal commitment as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee. This collaborative spirit between Morocco and the Czech Republic marks a notable advancement in their diplomatic journey, promising a future filled with shared opportunities and mutual benefits.
