Morocco and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) have taken a significant step towards enhancing the civil aviation sector by signing two pivotal agreements in Marrakech. These agreements aim to foster training, innovation, and the overall development of civil aviation systems, coinciding with the fifth Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026).
The first agreement is set to launch an international program designed to train civil aviation inspectors from member countries, particularly focusing on developing nations. Over the next three years, this program will train an average of 100 inspectors annually, significantly contributing to improving aviation safety standards and enhancing regulatory performance metrics within the aviation sector, according to the Moroccan news agency.
This training initiative encompasses various critical areas, including flight operations, aircraft airworthiness, aviation security, air navigation, accident investigation, and air transport, all adhering to international standards. The program will offer training courses in Morocco, either in person or in a hybrid format, conducted in both French and English.
The second agreement emphasizes bolstering the facilitation and security capabilities within Morocco's aviation system. It aims to enhance passenger flow management, improve border control efficiency, and develop mechanisms for securing sensitive cargo. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen cybersecurity measures to protect aviation systems and the data associated with them.
These agreements are part of the broader discussions at the GISS 2026, which brings together governmental officials and international experts to explore ways to enhance safety, sustainability, and cooperation within the global civil aviation sector.
By signing these agreements, Morocco is positioning itself as a regional hub for training in civil aviation, supporting the development of international competencies that align with the requirements of air transport safety and security.
