Strategic Collaborations to Enhance Aerospace Manufacturing

In a significant move to bolster its aerospace industry, Morocco's Ministry of Industry has forged new agreements with prominent global firms during the Marrakech Airshow 2026. This initiative reflects the nation's commitment to enhancing its capabilities in the aviation sector and aligns with King Mohammed VI's vision for advancing Morocco's industrial landscape.

Among the key agreements signed was a memorandum of understanding with APS Coating, which entails an investment of €18 million aimed at establishing a facility dedicated to the treatment of aircraft spare parts. This venture is projected to generate approximately 120 direct jobs, thereby contributing to the local economy and workforce. Additionally, the ministry partnered with MATIS, launching another memorandum of understanding focused on the expansion of its industrial facility that specializes in electrical wiring manufacturing for aircraft. This project, which represents an investment of $16.457 million, is expected to create around 740 direct jobs, further enhancing employment opportunities in the region.

Moreover, an agreement was signed between the Ministry and Mecapole Aviation and Defense to develop machining capabilities for aircraft and helicopter spare parts, backed by a €10 million investment that will create an additional 80 direct jobs. Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, emphasized that these agreements are instrumental in realizing the ambitious goals set forth by the Moroccan monarchy to develop a robust aerospace system, particularly in the areas of aircraft assembly and aerostructures.

Mezzour highlighted that these projects not only aim to advance the aerospace sector but also focus on strengthening national skills through innovation and partnerships with leading industry players. The objective is to leverage international expertise to develop new technologies, marking a pivotal shift from being mere buyers to achieving sovereign manufacturing capabilities in Morocco.

The Moroccan aerospace sector currently employs around 25,000 skilled workers and has experienced impressive annual growth exceeding 10%. The Marrakech Airshow also served as a platform for signing various agreements with international aerospace giants such as Lockheed Martin, Safran, Airbus, and Boeing. These collaborations include a partnership with Morocco's OCP, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), the Technical Center for Mechanical Industries, and the ACME platform, aimed at establishing the African Manufacturing Excellence Center. This center is intended to advance research and development within Morocco's aviation and industrial sectors, further solidifying the country's position as a key player in the global aerospace market.
