New EasyJet Operations to Enhance Air Connectivity in Morocco
The Moroccan National Tourism Office has announced the launch of a new air base for EasyJet in Marrakech, aimed at enhancing air connectivity and supporting the influx of tourists to Morocco, particularly from European markets. This initiative marks EasyJet's first operational base on the African continent, with three aircraft stationed at Marrakech Menara Airport. This strategic move is set to offer up to 4 million seats starting from the first year, aligning with a broader strategy to strengthen air transport and diversify tourist markets.
The inauguration of this base took place on April 15, with the attendance of the General Director of the Moroccan National Tourism Office, Achraf Faida, alongside EasyJet's General Director, Kenton Jarvis. This reflects the robust partnership between the two entities. Notably, this project will enhance the network of flights to Morocco by launching six new routes, bringing the total to 58 connections linking the country to various European destinations.
Looking ahead, new flights connecting Marrakech to cities such as Prague, Newcastle, and Zurich are expected to launch in the winter of 2026, in addition to routes to Essaouira and Agadir in the spring of the same year. Furthermore, several existing routes will operate year-round, particularly to European cities like Lille, Strasbourg, and Hamburg, thereby reinforcing stable air connectivity and improving the attractiveness of Morocco as a travel destination.
From an economic perspective, the establishment of this base is anticipated to create around 100 direct jobs, alongside indirect employment opportunities, thereby invigorating the local tourism ecosystem. This initiative is part of a strategic partnership agreement signed in 2025 between the Moroccan National Tourism Office and EasyJet, aimed at sustainably enhancing air connectivity, expanding flight offerings, and developing the "EasyJet Holidays" product that includes numerous hotels in Marrakech.
This development is in line with Morocco's efforts to cement its position as an international tourist destination by strengthening its air infrastructure and improving access for travelers, thus supporting the dynamism of the tourism sector and enhancing its contribution to the national economy.
