Morocco Emerges as Europe's Top Wheat Supplier for 2025-2026

Morocco Solidifies Its Position as a Leading Wheat Supplier

As of March 24, 2026, Morocco has firmly established itself as a strategic cereal partner in the European market for the 2025-2026 season. The North African nation has ascended to the top rank among destinations for soft wheat from the European Union (EU), showcasing a remarkable increase in import volumes. According to the latest data released by TAXUD, the Moroccan market absorbed an impressive 2,635,298 tons of European soft wheat between early July 2025 and mid-March 2026. This volume accounts for 15.7% of the total EU exports for this product, reflecting a substantial rise from the 1,930,227 tons recorded during the previous year.

Growing Demand for Hard Wheat and Semolina

The positive trend extends to durum wheat, with European shipments to Morocco reaching 36,561 tons, thereby capturing 5.5% of these exports—a significant increase from just 5,001 tons in the same period of the 2024-2025 season. Additionally, Morocco has emerged as a dominant supplier of durum wheat semolina to Europe, exporting 1,638 tons, which translates to a commanding 56.3% share of the European import market for this commodity. This volume has more than doubled within a year, underscoring the increasing reliance of European markets on Moroccan agricultural exports.
