Severe Heat Advisory Issued in Morocco
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, the General Directorate of Meteorology in Morocco issued an urgent orange alert regarding an anticipated heatwave that is expected to affect several regions across the kingdom, particularly in the southern provinces. The alert indicates that temperatures may rise to a staggering 46 degrees Celsius, starting from today and expected to last until Monday.
The meteorological report, identified as alert number 131/2026, elaborates on the expected meteorological phenomenon, highlighting that the highest temperatures will be recorded in areas such as Oued Ed-Dahab, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, Zagora, and Boujdour, where temperatures are forecasted to range between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius. This situation is attributed to the continuing influence of hot air masses that have been affecting the country in recent days.
Additionally, the report notes that temperatures in other regions, including Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, Khouribga, Fkih Ben Salah, Settat, and many others, will range from 40 to 44 degrees Celsius. The coastal city of Essaouira is projected to experience slightly lower temperatures, between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.
This heat advisory comes amidst the continuation of high temperatures that have enveloped vast areas of Morocco during the summer season. Authorities urge residents to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, and ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups, especially children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic illnesses.
