Morocco Welcomes High-Level African Security Meeting
Today, a significant event unfolded in the coastal city of El Jadida, Morocco, as the fifth session of the high-level meeting on counter-terrorism and security in Africa known as the "Marrakech Platform" commenced. This meeting, co-chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, aims to address the evolving threats of terrorism on the African continent. Over the course of two days, approximately forty intelligence and security agencies from across Africa are participating, alongside ninety delegations from the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Asia, who are attending as observers. The presence of representatives from various regional UN institutions further underscores the importance of this gathering in the fight against terrorism.
This meeting is particularly significant given the persistent and changing landscape of terrorist threats facing Africa. It continues the legacy of previous sessions held in Marrakech in 2022, Tangier in 2023, Fez in 2024, and Agadir in 2025. The growing interest in this edition of the "Marrakech Platform" by both African nations and international partners highlights its central role in fostering collaboration and enhancing regional cooperation against terrorism. The platform serves as a critical venue for sharing expertise, strengthening partnerships, and setting priorities for capacity building in the realm of counter-terrorism across Africa.
