Implementing Renewable Energy in Fuel Stations
The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development has announced new guidelines for applicants seeking to establish fuel stations in the country. These updated conditions mandate that project developers must evaluate the integration of renewable energy sources to meet all or part of their electricity needs from the design stage. This initiative aligns with Morocco's national energy transition goals and aims to enhance the sustainability of fuel stations.
According to a circular issued by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, applicants who include facilities for self-production of electricity from renewable sources in their comprehensive designs, or who study the incorporation of renewable energy, or sign contracts for the purchase of renewable energy, will be prioritized. This new requirement will come into effect starting August 31, 2026.
By encouraging the use of renewable energy, Morocco is not only working towards reducing energy costs but also contributing to a greener future. The government aims to facilitate the transition towards sustainable energy practices in various sectors, including the fuel industry.
