Morocco Launches New Livestock Aid Payments Following Verification of Female Sheep and Goats

New Phase of Financial Support for Livestock Farmers

Morocco has embarked on a significant new phase of financial aid directed at livestock farmers, which follows a comprehensive verification process aimed at ensuring the preservation of female sheep and goats, essential for breeding. The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that inspections are set to commence on March 24 across the nation. This initiative is crucial in confirming that farmers have retained the female livestock previously counted and tagged during a national campaign conducted between June 26 and August 11.

Upon the completion of this verification, eligible farmers will promptly receive the second installment of financial support, as outlined by the Ministry. This program is in direct response to royal directives aimed at revitalizing Morocco's livestock population, which has encountered various challenges in recent years. The verification efforts are being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, utilizing local committees established throughout the regions to oversee the operation.

Support Program and Financial Allocations

Officials have indicated that livestock farmers will receive their payments through the same channels as the initial round, specifically via bank transfers and money orders. This second payment will mark the conclusion of the livestock support program, which has already benefitted a substantial number of farmers. In fact, approximately 1.1 million livestock breeders received the first installment of support, with the government allocating a significant budget of MAD 5.5 billion for this phase alone.

Earlier this year, on January 7, the Ministry confirmed that around 32.3 million animals had been identified and tagged as part of a national livestock census. This initiative not only aids in financial support qualification but also establishes a reliable database for future reference. Furthermore, the Ministry continues to address complaints from farmers who were counted but did not benefit from the tagging process, assuring that these cases will be handled according to the established procedures.
