The latest FIFA ranking reaffirms Morocco's status as the leading football nation in Africa, a position it has held for over three and a half years. Following its quarter-final elimination by France in the most recent World Cup, Morocco has climbed one spot globally to 6th place, solidifying its lead in the African football hierarchy. The Atlas Lions continue to widen the gap between themselves and their continental competitors.

Senegal and Egypt Follow Closely Behind

In the current standings, Senegal holds onto the second position in Africa, despite falling three ranks in the global rankings after being eliminated in the round of 16. The Senegalese team managed to secure only one victory in four matches during the 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, Egypt, which faced elimination at the hands of Argentina in the round of 16, rounds out the top three. Interestingly, Nigeria, who did not qualify for the last World Cup, finds itself just outside the podium finishers.

In contrast, the Democratic Republic of Congo has moved up to 7th in Africa, climbing two places thanks to its World Cup performance, marking a significant achievement after a 52-year absence from the tournament. Furthermore, after winning the World Cup against Argentina, Spain has reclaimed the top spot in the global FIFA rankings, followed by Argentina, while France, England, and Brazil complete the top five.
