Morocco Maintains Its Position at 112 in the 2026 World Happiness Report

In the latest World Happiness Report for 2026, Morocco has retained its position at 112 out of 147 countries evaluated, mirroring its rank from the previous year but dropping five spots compared to 2024. With a score of 4.46 out of 10, Morocco remains in the lower third of the global happiness rankings, which is led by Finland, followed by Iceland and Denmark. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Afghanistan holds the last position, preceded by Sierra Leone and Malawi.

The report indicates that Morocco's low score is primarily attributed to the social support indicator, highlighting a strong sense of family and community support among Moroccans. Additionally, it reflects aspects such as personal decision-making freedom and a noticeable improvement in healthy life expectancy. However, the negative impact of corruption on the happiness of Moroccans cannot be overlooked, alongside the country's poor performance in generosity, which the report correlates with charitable donations.

Overall, the low ranking underscores the various challenges faced by Morocco, including issues related to corruption, the health status of citizens, and economic conditions linked to per capita GDP. The report also emphasizes the detrimental effects of excessive social media use on citizens' happiness, noting that Morocco stands out in the Arab region with only about 15% of its population engaging in excessive use (more than five hours a day), in stark contrast to Lebanon, where this figure reaches 45%.

In the Arab world, Morocco ranks 11th, trailing behind the United Arab Emirates (21st globally), Saudi Arabia (22nd), Kuwait (40th), Bahrain (55th), Oman (58th), Libya (81st), Algeria (83rd), Iraq (95th), Tunisia (105th), and Palestine (109th).
