Morocco Enhances Air Force Logistics with New C295W Aircraft
Morocco has officially welcomed its first C295W transport aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space, marking a significant step in strengthening its air logistics capabilities. Manufactured in Sevilla, Spain, this aircraft is part of a broader order that includes between two to four units, aimed at augmenting the existing fleet of CN-235, C-27J, and C-130H Hercules aircraft. This modern addition is designed to address logistical needs with enhanced features and operational flexibility.
The C295W stands out with its increased cargo capacity of 8 tons, the ability to transport up to 70 soldiers or 48 paratroopers, and more powerful engines compared to its predecessor, the CN-235. Strengthening Regional Ties through Military Contracts
Morocco's acquisition of the C295W is not an isolated development but is part of a larger trend in regional military collaboration that includes recent contracts with Algeria. In January 2025, the Spanish government approved the sale of eight C-295 aircraft to Algeria for €385.2 million, showcasing the strengthening military ties between Madrid and Algiers. Algeria first became the African operator of the C295 back in 2004, when it purchased two VIP transport versions and four for maritime patrol missions.
Furthermore, Airbus's Sevilla facility is operating at full capacity to fulfill contracts for 34 C295 aircraft with the Spanish Ministry of Defence, valued at €3.03 billion. The recent delivery of the first of eight maritime surveillance aircraft to the Spanish Air and Space Force is indicative of the ongoing commitment to modernizing its fleet, which will eventually replace the aging CN-235 systems. As part of this modernization, Airbus is also expected to deliver two of the 18 requested transport aircraft by the end of 2026.
