Tourism Boom in Morocco: A Record Number of Visitors
In the first half of 2026, Morocco experienced a remarkable influx of tourists, welcoming approximately 9.4 million visitors, marking a notable increase of 6% compared to the previous year. This impressive growth is largely attributed to the rise in arrivals from key markets, including a 9% increase from France, 14% from Germany, 9% from Belgium, and 10% from the Netherlands. Additionally, the Italian market saw a 6% increase, while Poland contributed a striking 32% surge. Other significant markets included the United Kingdom with a 4% increase and the United States with a 9% rise, as reported by the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasting (DEPF) in their recent economic analysis.
Growing Revenues and Overnight Stays
Alongside the increase in visitors, the number of overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments also rose by 9% by the end of June, following a 12% increase in the same period the previous year. This surge in tourism has been fueled by the growing appeal of various Moroccan destinations. Notable cities such as Marrakech, Agadir, and Casablanca all reported significant increases in overnight stays, with Marrakech leading at a 10% rise, Agadir and Casablanca both at 11%, and other cities like Ouarzazate experiencing a staggering 23%. The overall revenue from tourism reached 64.9 billion Moroccan dirhams (MMDH), reflecting a robust growth of 15.9% compared to the previous year. This growth trajectory is underpinned by increases of 23.5% in the first quarter and 21.2% in the second quarter of 2026, solidifying Morocco's position as a top tourist destination.
