A New Platform for Morocco’s Avocado Industry

The Morocco Avocado Conference 2026 (MAC) is set to take place on September 30, 2026, in Tangier, a city that serves as a vital link between Morocco and international markets. This event, organized by Green Smile, marks the first international conference dedicated exclusively to the avocado industry in Morocco. It aims to address the growing demand for avocados and explore the challenges and opportunities within this rapidly expanding sector.

Avocado Industry Faces Challenges Amid Growth

Morocco's avocado market has witnessed an impressive surge in recent years, with exports reaching a staggering 141,000 tonnes in the previous season. However, the current 2025/2026 season has seen a significant decline in exports, dropping to approximately 58,000 tonnes. This downturn has been attributed to a combination of extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, and logistical hurdles affecting the supply chain. These challenges have prompted industry stakeholders to reconsider the resilience and sustainability of avocado production in Morocco.

Moreover, the sector is contending with several technical issues, including the need for improved plant quality and certification, effective irrigation and fertigation methods, and the management of climate-related risks such as chergui winds and flooding. The MAC 2026 aims to unite growers, exporters, technical experts, and input suppliers to share insights and develop practical strategies to overcome these obstacles.
