Morocco's Rise in Popularity Among British and Irish Travelers
Morocco is on the verge of surpassing Vietnam to become the most sold destination for Intrepid Travel among British and Irish customers this year. The travel operator has recently organized the largest familiarization trip in its history to showcase the unique offerings of this North African gem. According to Carrie Grant, the partnership manager for travel agencies in these markets, Morocco is now poised to "contend for the top spot" in sales, as reported by Travel Weekly on September 21.
At present, the leading destinations for Intrepid Travel include Vietnam, Morocco, Japan, and Peru. Morocco's appeal lies in its diverse offerings, relatively short flight times from the UK, and the strong operational capabilities that Intrepid already has established on the ground. This growing interest highlights the increasing enthusiasm of British tourists for Morocco, particularly for popular cities like Marrakech, Tangier, Tétouan, and the northern regions.
Expanding Familiarity with Moroccan Destinations
To capitalize on this upward trend, Intrepid recently organized an extensive familiarization trip in Morocco, which took place in early September. This significant event saw the participation of 60 travel agents from the UK and Ireland, allowing them to immerse themselves in the culture and experiences that Morocco has to offer. The itinerary included explorations of Marrakech and its bustling medina, followed by visits to various destinations such as Ouirgane in the Atlas Mountains, the Agafay Desert, Casablanca, and Essaouira. The agents reconvened in Marrakech for a professional summit hosted by Intrepid, aimed at equipping them with firsthand knowledge of the tours available.
Understanding the offerings in detail is crucial for these agents, as Carrie Grant emphasizes the importance of genuine belief in the products they sell, which directly influences customer perceptions. Morocco already plays a central role in Intrepid's global strategy, having ranked as the top destination by the number of travelers in 2024, with an impressive total of 22,778 travelers across 22 itineraries. With over 100 employees based in Marrakech, supplemented by 148 local guides and crew members, Intrepid is well-equipped to rapidly expand its offerings to meet rising demand.
Additionally, Intrepid has renewed its partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office for the period from 2026 to 2031, setting an ambitious goal of welcoming 200,000 travelers to Morocco each year by 2031, up from fewer than 23,000 in 2024, as stated by Intrepid Travel.
