Celebrating Culture and Friendship at the San Ángel Flower Fair

On Saturday, July 13, 2026, the vibrant capital of Mexico City welcomed the 169th edition of the San Ángel Flower Fair, one of Mexico's most distinguished cultural events, featuring Morocco as the guest of honor. In his opening speech, Morocco’s ambassador to Mexico, Abdel Fattah Labbar, emphasized that Morocco's selection as the guest of honor symbolizes the strong bonds of friendship between the two nations, which share common values and boast a rich cultural heritage. He highlighted the crucial role of culture as a tool for social cohesion, development, and fostering connections between peoples.

Ambassador Labbar pointed out that the San Ángel Flower Fair spans nine days and is packed with a diverse array of floral exhibitions, musical performances, workshops, competitions, and cultural activities. This event is not merely a cultural celebration; it serves as a platform for promoting understanding, cooperation, and friendship among nations. Furthermore, he remarked on the significance of nature and gardening arts in Moroccan civilization, noting that historical gardens in cities such as Fes, Marrakech, Rabat, and Tangier exemplify a tradition where aesthetics, harmony, and respect for nature are integral to the cultural heritage of the kingdom.

The ambassador considered this fair an opportunity to share a glimpse of Morocco's cultural wealth with the Mexican people, showcasing its traditional crafts, arts, cuisine, and music. This allows visitors to discover an authentic, diverse, modern, and globally open Morocco. He also stressed that culture has become a fundamental instrument of diplomacy in contemporary times, affirming that Morocco will continue to make cultural diplomacy a cornerstone of its foreign relations, in line with the insightful vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which focuses on dialogue between civilizations, openness, and international cooperation.

Moreover, he noted the renewed dynamism in Moroccan-Mexican relations in recent years, reflected in the strengthening of political, economic, cultural, and academic cooperation. The ambassador believes that the partnership potential between the two countries remains promising and offers extensive opportunities for collaboration.

The San Ángel Flower Fair, which dates back to 1857, stands as one of Mexico's most prominent cultural and popular events, celebrating the floral and artistic heritage of the San Ángel region every year. This year's fair will continue until July 19, featuring a varied program that includes exhibitions of flowers and plants, musical and artistic performances, workshops, competitions, and cultural activities held in key public spaces such as La Bombilla Park and the San Jacinto Square, attracting thousands of visitors from across the country.
