In a remarkable display of growth, Morocco has solidified its leadership position in the United Kingdom's raspberry market, achieving an impressive export record for the 2025/26 season. According to a report from EastFruit, the North African nation exported approximately 18,400 tons of fresh raspberries to the UK, generating revenue exceeding £132.7 million (around €154.7 million). This achievement marks a modest increase of 1.6% compared to the previous year, and importantly, it establishes a new benchmark for Morocco in this competitive market.
Market Share and Growth Trends
The significance of this growth is underscored by the broader context of declining raspberry imports within the UK. Analysts from EastFruit note that Moroccan raspberry exports to the UK have surged 2.6 times since the 2020/21 season, with Morocco's market share skyrocketing from 21.3% to an astounding 62.9%. This means that nearly two-thirds of all raspberries imported by the UK now originate from Morocco, highlighting the country's dominance in this sector. Spain remains the second largest supplier, while other countries, including Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, and South Africa, contribute additional volumes to the market.
The UK berry market, in general, continues to thrive, characterized by a dynamic growth rate of approximately 4.3% annually, as reported by the CBI. Notably, consumer interest in berries is significant, with over 85% of consumers actively purchasing these fruits. At the beginning of 2025, the total value of the UK berry market surpassed the £2 billion mark for the first time, equating to around €2.33 billion. With such compelling figures, Morocco has firmly established itself as a strategic supplier of raspberries to the UK, reinforcing its role in one of Europe's most lucrative berry markets.
