Morocco is set to play a pivotal role in aiding Liberia in the formation of its military air component. As part of this collaboration, the Royal Armed Forces of Morocco will not only provide training for Liberian commandos but will also supply vehicles and equipment to bolster the capabilities of this West African nation. This significant commitment was made during the visit of General Davidson F. Forleh, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, to Morocco from September 6 to September 14. The visit aimed to implement a military cooperation agreement that was signed between the two countries on October 21, 2025, in Rabat, as reported by FrontPageAfrica.
The most crucial aspect of this partnership lies in the establishment of an air component within the Liberian forces. Morocco has pledged to support the creation and operationalization of this component, which includes training for pilots, technicians, and other qualified personnel. In this context, the Liberian delegation visited the Royal Air Forces Inspection as well as an air transport base, and they also toured the Royal College of Higher Military Education, which expressed its readiness to welcome officers from Liberia.
Additionally, Morocco will oversee the commando training of a Liberian detachment equivalent to a company size. Four vehicles, including a command vehicle, are scheduled for delivery, along with instructional materials and various selected equipment. General Davidson F. Forleh was received on September 8 in Rabat by General Mohammed Berrid, the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and commander of the Southern Zone. The delegation subsequently visited the 1st Parachute Brigade and the Mohammed V Military Hospital.
Discussions also encompassed military health matters. Both armies are considering training initiatives, specialist exchanges, technical assistance, and the management of certain medical cases requiring specialized care in Morocco. Furthermore, the cooperation is expected to extend to the navy, with meetings planned with the Royal Navy Inspection and the Naval School to assist Liberia in enhancing its maritime operations and the capabilities of its coast guard.
A joint military commission will be responsible for transforming these commitments into annual programs, complete with priorities, training quotas, and a detailed timeline. Thus, Morocco's involvement will extend beyond merely providing equipment; it will actively participate in the training of Liberian military personnel and the establishment of new aerial, terrestrial, and maritime capabilities.
