Morocco to be the First Guest Country at Loulé MED Festival 2024

Morocco's Cultural Showcase at the Loulé MED Festival

The Loulé MED Festival, recognized as the largest summer festival held annually in the heart of the Algarve, has announced Morocco as its inaugural guest country for the upcoming edition. This announcement was made during the BTL tourism fair in Lisbon, where several of the first artists set to perform at the 2024 festival were also revealed. The celebration is scheduled to take place from June 27 to June 30, promising a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage.

In an exciting twist, each future edition of the MED Festival will feature a different guest country, with Morocco leading the way to present its rich culture and traditions through various artistic expressions, including music, crafts, gastronomy, literature, and other cultural mediums. A traditional market, or Suk, will be recreated in the cloister of the Espírito Santo Monastery in Loulé, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the authentic atmosphere of the Maghreb. The festival will highlight Moroccan cuisine, with daily tastings of traditional dishes such as Tajines, Couscous, Keftas, and the classic mint tea. Additionally, live musical performances by Moroccan artists and demonstrations of traditional craftsmanship will enhance the experience.

According to Carlos Carmo, the mayor of Loulé and head of the festival, this initiative is a significant opportunity to celebrate the town's cultural identity and historical heritage, which is closely linked to the Arab legacy that has left its mark on the region. Loulé is home to the only known fully preserved Islamic baths on the Iberian Peninsula, further emphasizing the strong Arab influence in the area. The decision to invite Morocco as the first guest country aligns with the ongoing efforts to strengthen relations between Portugal and Morocco.

A Diverse Lineup and Exciting Festival Experience

The 2024 edition of the MED Festival is anticipated to offer an impressive 90 hours of live music, featuring 54 concerts with 358 musicians from 30 different countries across 12 stages. Approximately 100 artisans will showcase their creations, alongside two art exhibitions and 12 street performer groups, ensuring a rich and varied program for attendees. Among the first confirmed artists for this year's festival are Afrotronix (Chad), Anthony B (Jamaica), Antti Paalanen (Finland), Bixi 70 (Brazil), chico cesar (Brazil), Dubioza-Kolektiv (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Idiotap (South Korea), and many more, including acts from Portugal like Kumpania Algazarra, Lina, Rita Vian, and Teresinha Landeiro.

Tickets for the festival are currently available for purchase, with prices set at €10 for a day pass, €30 for a festival pass granting access to the entire event, and €35 for a family day ticket. Attendees are encouraged to secure their tickets early to experience this unique cultural celebration.
