Morocco to Host Upcoming Ministerial Meeting Amid Strong Gulf Support

The Gulf Cooperation Council has reiterated its unwavering support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, emphasizing its commitment to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This affirmation came during the eighth joint ministerial meeting held via videoconference on Thursday, which brought together Morocco and the member states of the Council.

In the meeting, Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, the Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council, conveyed the unanimous stance of the Gulf states in favor of Morocco's territorial claims over the Sahara. He highlighted the robust fraternal relationships that unite Morocco with the Gulf nations, underscoring the importance of solidarity and mutual support among these regions.

The Council also welcomed Security Council Resolution No. 2797, which recognizes the autonomy proposal under Moroccan sovereignty as a credible and pragmatic foundation for addressing the ongoing regional dispute over the Sahara. The resolution reinforces the commitment of the Gulf states to support the initiatives of the United Nations Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, aimed at revitalizing negotiations based on the Moroccan initiative, with the ultimate goal of achieving a conclusive resolution to the conflict within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

The meeting saw the participation of Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, along with ministers and representatives from the Gulf Cooperation Council. The delegations collectively reaffirmed their steadfast backing for the unity of Moroccan territory and their rejection of any infringement on the Kingdom's sovereignty.

At the conclusion of the discussions, it was announced that Morocco would host the ninth session of the joint ministerial meeting between Morocco and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, an initiative put forth by the Gulf states. This decision reflects the profound strategic relations between the two parties and the high level of trust in the Kingdom under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

Participants in the meeting emphasized that this gathering not only highlights the strength of the partnership between Morocco and the Gulf but also illustrates the commitment of both parties to enhance coordination and dialogue on regional and international issues of mutual concern. Such collaboration aims to foster stability and development throughout the Arab region.
