Morocco's Tourism Boom: A Record Surge in Visitor Numbers
According to the latest report from the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasting, Morocco has welcomed approximately 9.4 million tourists by the end of the first half of 2026, marking a notable increase of 6% compared to the previous year. This surge in visitor numbers is a testament to Morocco's growing appeal as a travel destination. The report highlights that the increase in arrivals can be attributed to a rise in visitors from key markets, with French tourists up by 9%, German visitors by 14%, Belgian arrivals by 9%, Dutch tourists by 10%, as well as increases from Italian (6%), Polish (32%), British (4%), and American (9%) markets.
Furthermore, the number of overnight stays recorded in classified tourist accommodations has also seen a significant rise, increasing by 9% by the end of June. This growth follows a previous year that experienced a 12% increase, underscoring the sustained interest in Morocco's diverse offerings. Notably, cities such as Marrakech, Agadir, Casablanca, Tangier, and Rabat have reported impressive growth in overnight stays, with Marrakech seeing an increase of 10%, Agadir and Casablanca at 11%, and Rabat growing by 20%.
In terms of travel revenues, Morocco has generated a remarkable 64.9 billion dirhams by the end of June 2026, representing a 15.9% increase year-on-year. This financial upturn is attributed to a staggering 23.5% increase in revenues during the first quarter and a 21.2% rise in the second quarter of 2026, reflecting the robust health of the tourism sector.
