Tourism Thrives in Morocco with Record Visitor Numbers
In an impressive display of resilience and growth, Morocco's tourism sector has continued its upward trajectory into 2026, with over 14 million tourists welcomed by the end of August. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone, as for the first time, more than 2 million tourists visited the country in August alone, reflecting a 3% increase compared to the same month in 2025. This surge in tourism is part of a favorable trend that has been evident since the beginning of the year, with nearly 9.4 million visitors recorded by the end of June, representing a 6% year-on-year growth, according to data from the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF).
Strategic Markets Drive Growth and Visitor Engagement
The remarkable growth in tourist arrivals has been largely fueled by several key source markets. By the end of June, there was a notable increase in visitors from France, with a 9% rise, while Germany saw a 14% increase. Other notable contributors included Belgium with a 9% increase and the Netherlands with a 10% rise. Moreover, the Polish market displayed the strongest growth at a staggering 32%, followed closely by the United States (9%), Italy (6%), and the United Kingdom (4%). This trend of increasing international arrivals has also been mirrored in the performance of classified tourist accommodation establishments, which reported a 9% increase in overnight stays compared to the previous year, following a 12% growth during the same period in 2025. The ongoing recovery and growth of the Moroccan tourism sector not only bolster the economy but also reinforce the Kingdom's ambitions for a robust tourism industry.
