Legal Dispute Between Raja Casablanca and Former Coach Nasreddine Nabi
As the 2026-2027 season of the Botola Pro is yet to kick off, Raja Casablanca and former coach Nasreddine Nabi find themselves embroiled in a legal confrontation that appears to be escalating. Following the official announcement of Nabi’s departure, his legal representative has approached FIFA to contest the circumstances surrounding his exit and is seeking compensation estimated at 3.2 million dirhams.
The discord between Raja and Nabi is far from resolved. Just days after the end of his tenure was made public, the situation took a contentious turn when Nabi's lawyer filed a complaint with FIFA. Central to the dispute is the method by which the termination of the contract was communicated and executed. According to insiders, Nabi is disputing the procedure employed by the club, claiming that the notification of his dismissal was delivered through a judicial commissioner, which he argues is not in accordance with standard practices. Furthermore, he maintains that the termination was not mutually agreed upon, contrary to the claims made by the club's management.
Nabi also asserts that the timing of his dismissal has adversely affected his career prospects. He had been involved in the team's preparations before unexpectedly learning of his exclusion, a situation he believes has diminished his chances of quickly securing a new coaching position, especially since most teams have already finalized their rosters for the upcoming season.
Additionally, Nabi does not consider the payment of his September and October salaries adequate compensation. His lawyer is demanding the full remuneration for the remainder of his contract, which extends until June, amounting to approximately 3.2 million dirhams. On the other hand, Raja Casablanca stands firm in its stance, asserting that it has adhered to the contractual provisions. The club officially announced the termination of Nabi's contract, emphasizing that the decision was made in "strict compliance with the contractual terms" agreed upon by both parties. The contract specified that in the event of a termination, two months' salary would be payable, a commitment that Raja claims to have fulfilled.
This dispute comes against a backdrop of existing tensions between Nabi and the club's sporting director, Rogério Matias. Disagreements regarding recruitment strategies have progressively strained their relationship, ultimately leading to a more significant rift. Following Nabi’s exit, Raja swiftly appointed Spanish coach Paco Jémez to lead the team. The case is now in the hands of FIFA, which will examine the arguments from both sides to determine any rights and compensations Nabi may be entitled to. Should the dispute continue beyond FIFA's decision, it could escalate to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for further resolution.
