Significant Growth in Moroccan Air Traffic

According to recent data from the National Airports Office (ONDA), Moroccan airports welcomed a remarkable 22.2 million travelers during the first seven months of 2026, reflecting an impressive growth rate of 8.77% compared to the previous year. This substantial increase underscores the ongoing expansion of air traffic within the kingdom, significantly driven by international connections. Out of the total passengers recorded by the end of July, an overwhelming majority of 19.8 million utilized international routes, while domestic traffic accounted for 2.3 million. This surge in activity was facilitated by a total of 164,164 aircraft movements, marking a 9.82% increase from the same period in 2025.

Europe continues to be the dominant source market for international travelers heading to Morocco, contributing nearly 16.5 million passengers, which represents a year-on-year increase of 9.29%. However, other markets demonstrated even more robust growth rates. For instance, air traffic from South America surged by 34.21%, reaching 62,880 passengers, while North American traffic increased by 14.54%, totaling 581,297 passengers. Furthermore, traffic from Africa reached 1.18 million passengers, up by 13.74%.

Future Ambitions for Air Transport in Morocco

In terms of airport usage, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca remains the leading airport in the country, handling 6.9 million passengers during this period, followed closely by Marrakeck-Ménara Airport, which recorded 6.4 million travelers. Notably, during July alone, all Moroccan airports collectively accommodated 3.4 million passengers. The freight transport sector also exhibited positive trends, with Moroccan airports processing 66,980.55 tonnes of cargo from January to July 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.61%. This growth occurs as Morocco seeks to elevate its aviation sector to new heights, aiming to surpass the previous record of 36.3 million travelers achieved in 2025.

Looking ahead, Morocco has set an ambitious target of achieving a passenger traffic capacity of 80 million annually by 2030. To realize this vision, authorities are focusing on enhancing air connectivity through new agreements with international airlines, strengthening the Royal Air Maroc network, and modernizing as well as expanding airport infrastructures.
