Record Traffic at Moroccan Airports in Summer 2026
The National Office of Airports has announced a significant transformation in air travel dynamics across Morocco during the summer season of 2026. The country’s airports have been experiencing unprecedented levels of passenger traffic, which reflect a positive trend in the aviation sector. Notably, during the first weekend of August, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca achieved a historical milestone by accommodating 46,439 passengers in just 24 hours, marking an extraordinary peak in its operational capacity.
This upward trajectory in passenger numbers was not confined to Casablanca alone. Other airports in the nation also reported impressive figures, with Marrakech Menara Airport surpassing 30,000 passengers in a single day. Meanwhile, Rabat-Salé Airport welcomed 9,226 travelers, Agadir Al Massira Airport served 11,973 passengers, and Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport recorded 13,309 passengers during peak travel days.
Furthermore, the airports of Dakhla and Tetouan noted remarkable increases in air traffic, with rises of 45.2% and 36.14% respectively during peak periods. Such increases in passenger flow are indicative of a structural trend rather than a temporary spike, especially considering that national air traffic reached a record 36.3 million passengers in 2025, demonstrating the growing role of airports in enhancing Morocco's global connectivity.
To manage the increasing number of travelers while maintaining high operational standards, the National Office of Airports emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive strategy under the "Airports 2030" initiative. This strategy aims to expand capacity, modernize infrastructure, digitize services, improve passenger experiences, and develop adaptive frameworks for future growth.
This remarkable performance is attributed to a collective effort among various stakeholders within the airport ecosystem, including "Moroccan Airports," which collaborates with the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the General Directorate of National Security, Customs, the Royal Gendarmerie, and Royal Air Maroc to optimize operations during peak travel times. Together, they are committed to accommodating the burgeoning demand for air travel while ensuring sustainable use of airport capacity and enhancing Morocco's international appeal.
