Significant Growth in Passenger Traffic at Moroccan Airports
In January 2026, Moroccan airports experienced a remarkable rise in commercial passenger traffic, reaching a total of 3,133,378 travelers. This reflects an impressive increase of 14.7% compared to the same month in the previous year, as reported by the National Office of Airports (ONDA). The Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca stood out as a major contributor, accounting for over 33% of the total traffic by welcoming 1,062,683 passengers, which marks a significant growth of 20.91% from January 2025. Other airports across the country also witnessed extraordinary double-digit growth rates, with Béni-Mellal leading at an astounding 46.62%, followed by Tanger Ibn Batouta at 19.11%, Rabat Salé at 18.99%, Nador El Aroui at 16.04%, Marrakech-Ménara at 13.61%, and Agadir Al Massira at 11.17%.
The surge in overall performance can largely be attributed to the increasing volume of international flights. In January 2026, the distribution of passenger traffic between domestic and international flights highlighted that Moroccan airports welcomed 2,801,501 travelers on international flights, representing a growth of 14.89%, while domestic flights saw 331,877 passengers, which is up by 13.11%. Notably, all geographical regions contributed to the growth in international traffic. Europe, which constitutes over 80% of the international market, experienced a rise of 13.16%. Other regions also reported varied growth rates, with Africa showing a significant increase of 28.92%, the Middle East and Far East at 15.87%, North America at 28.71%, the Maghreb region at 13.65%, and South America leading with a remarkable 50% increase.
In terms of airport movements, January 2026 recorded a total of 23,348 flights, both arrivals and departures, across all airports in Morocco, marking a 13.62% increase compared to January 2025. Additionally, air freight traffic grew by 7.38% during the same period, reaching over 9,327 tonnes, compared to 8,685 tonnes in January 2025. This trend reflects the continued recovery and expansion of the aviation sector in Morocco, indicating a positive outlook for the months ahead.
