Morocco's Staunch Support for Palestinian Rights
Under the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI, who also chairs the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco has firmly reiterated its dedication to advocating for a resolution that ensures the historical and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are upheld. This commitment was prominently featured in the address delivered by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, during the annual coordination meeting of the foreign ministers from the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This significant meeting took place alongside the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Bourita emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that in response to “worrying and dangerous developments,” Morocco, guided by the King, is resolute in its belief that peace is a strategic imperative. The nation will persist in its efforts to reach a solution that not only recognizes the historical rights of the Palestinian people but also leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds designated as its capital.
Advocacy for Peace and Stability in the Middle East
During his address, Bourita articulated the critical importance of addressing the Palestinian cause, which stands as the central issue for the Islamic Ummah. He described this moment as a historic juncture, characterized by relentless Israeli actions that threaten Palestinian safety and sovereignty, including ongoing assaults in the Gaza Strip, the relentless expansion of settlements in the West Bank, and increasing violence perpetrated by settlers. Furthermore, he highlighted the systematic policies of Judaization being pursued in Al-Quds, which aim to alter the city’s legal, historical, and demographic landscape.
In light of these challenges, Bourita underscored Morocco's ongoing approach, which merges measured political actions with diplomatic initiatives, aimed at protecting the legitimate rights of Palestinians through tangible efforts on the ground. He noted that these endeavors are being actualized via field projects overseen by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, the operative arm of the Al-Quds Committee, which aims to support the residents of the Holy City and bolster their resilience against the pervasive Judaization policies.
Moreover, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to collective multilateral action, asserting that the country has earnestly participated in international initiatives designed to foster peace and stability within the region. He stated that Morocco’s involvement in the Peace Council exemplifies a clear intention to contribute positively and constructively towards de-escalation efforts, the protection of civilians, and the establishment of conducive conditions for the resumption of a serious and credible political process.
