Morocco's Emergency Plan for Enhancing Accessibility for Disabled Travelers Unveiled

Morocco Implements Comprehensive Accessibility Plan for Airports

On March 21, 2026, Morocco announced an ambitious emergency plan aimed at improving accessibility for travelers with disabilities across its airports. This initiative is designed to systematically enhance the travel experience for passengers with mobility challenges and will be rolled out gradually at various airport locations throughout the kingdom. The program takes into account the unique characteristics of each airport, ensuring tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of disabled individuals.

During a parliamentary session, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, elaborated on the details of this initiative, which aligns with a decree issued in May 2023. This decree rigorously defines the rights of persons with reduced mobility within the aviation sector. The comprehensive support system includes dedicated check-in counters, specially designed information kiosks, accessible restrooms, and clearly marked parking areas to facilitate smooth movement for all travelers.

Continuous Assessment and Future Enhancements

In collaboration with local stakeholders, ongoing assessments of airport infrastructure are conducted to ensure compliance with the new accessibility standards. The airports are equipped with essential amenities such as wheelchairs and specialized boarding equipment, which are crucial for prioritizing the comfort and safety of these passengers. Minister Kayouh emphasized that the principle of priority service is being adopted, emphasizing the importance of training airport staff on the significance of providing quality assistance to travelers with disabilities.

A validated technical study recommends the rapid integration of innovative digital solutions to simplify navigation within terminals. Improvements in the configuration of parking areas and the establishment of direct pathways connecting vehicles to check-in counters are also recommended. These enhancements aim to bolster the security of transit zones and stairways through the implementation of modern guidance systems. Ultimately, the goal is to significantly improve the reception conditions for all passengers, facilitated by seamless coordination among all airport personnel.
