Morocco's Assertion of Historical Rights Over Ceuta and Melilla
In a recent interview, Morocco's Justice Minister, Abdellatif Ouahbi, underscored the country's historical and geographical claims over the territories of Ceuta and Melilla, which are currently under Spanish administration. Ouahbi expressed the necessity for initiating a "dialogue space" with Madrid to seek a "definitive solution" regarding the status of these cities. He firmly stated, "We will defend our historical and geographical rights, as well as the avenues for dialogue on this issue," emphasizing that silence on the matter is not a viable option for either the present or the future.
Request for the Repatriation of Migrants
Additionally, in a separate interview with Al Arabiya, Ouahbi called on Spain to facilitate the repatriation of all migrants, both survivors and the deceased, who attempted to enter Ceuta during a mass crossing on July 30. This request includes unaccompanied minors. It is important to note that Spain has recently begun the burial process for the migrants who lost their lives during this tragic event, with reports indicating that the number of fatalities stands at 82. The minister's remarks and the ongoing situation reflect the complexities surrounding migration and territorial claims in this region, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic tensions between Morocco and Spain.
