Showcasing the Apache AH-64E Capabilities

The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces captured significant attention during the eighth edition of the Marrakech International Airshow, particularly with the impressive displays of the Apache AH-64E helicopters. These advanced American-made attack helicopters, recently integrated into the military's fleet, took to the skies above Marrakech, showcasing their combat capabilities and sophisticated equipment. The airshow not only highlighted the operational prowess of these helicopters, which can effectively destroy armored vehicles and combat machinery using Hellfire missiles, but also emphasized the integrated weapon systems that enable precise targeting. Supported by an advanced sensor network, these helicopters can connect various combat systems and share data in real-time, enhancing battlefield effectiveness. Furthermore, their ability to control unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) extends their sensor range and multiplies their combat strength.

In May, the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces received a second batch of seven Apache helicopters, marking a significant milestone during the conclusion of the African Lion exercises in the Tan-Tan region, attended by Moroccan and American military officials. This acquisition underlines Morocco's commitment to enhancing its military capabilities and technological advancements.

Strategic Agreements to Boost Aerospace Industry

Alongside the aerial demonstrations, the signing of several agreements during the airshow underscored Morocco's ambition to transition from importing technology and equipment to developing a national industrial base capable of design, production, and innovation. These initiatives are part of partnerships with major international companies and institutions. One of the notable agreements involves the establishment of the African Center of Excellence in Manufacturing (ACME), which will collaborate with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the National Defense Administration, and the OCP Group, alongside industry giants such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, and Safran Nacelles, and the Technical Studies Center for Mechanical Industries (CETIM).

Expected to be housed within the campus of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Nouacer, this center aims to integrate research, development, training, and industrial testing, with the goal of accelerating the translation of research outcomes into practical applications, strengthening supply chains, and enhancing Moroccan competencies in advanced manufacturing sectors. The center will focus on developing technologies including advanced materials, additive manufacturing, composite material processing, robotics, industrial automation, artificial intelligence, and technical measurement and testing, all aimed at boosting the competitiveness of the Moroccan industrial ecosystem and expanding its presence in global value chains.

Moreover, the airshow also witnessed the signing of a protocol agreement with Safran Oil Systems for a specialized industrial project focusing on oil systems and fluid management for aircraft engines. The announced investment for this project stands at 160 million dirhams, with the expectation of creating 100 jobs, thereby enhancing local expertise in automation and the manufacturing of high-precision components, and expanding the aviation-related industrial activities within the kingdom.

In a further move towards strengthening the defense sector, Morocco and Harmattan AI signed an investment agreement to launch a comprehensive project that encompasses research and development, prototype development, engineering, production, and testing, with a strong emphasis on technologies for countering drones and independent systems. This initiative is projected to create approximately 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the development of national expertise in autonomous aerial systems and related technologies.
