Morocco Attributes Ceuta Migration Crisis to Human Trafficking and Misinformation
The Moroccan government has issued a statement attributing the recent migration crisis in Ceuta to a combination of human trafficking networks, misinformation, and misunderstandings surrounding a ruling by the Spanish Supreme Court regarding immediate deportations. This assertion comes in the wake of a significant influx of Moroccan migrants into the Spanish enclave, which resulted in tragic fatalities, with many individuals reportedly drowning while attempting to cross the border.
A spokesperson from the Moroccan Ministry of Interior emphasized that the events in Ceuta were not the result of spontaneous circumstances or random factors. Instead, they characterized the situation as stemming from the "malicious exploitation of digital spaces" and the activities of human trafficking networks, coupled with the dissemination of misleading information and misinterpretations related to recent judicial decisions made by Spanish authorities. These misinterpretations, fueled by information overload, allegedly bolstered the belief among potential migrants that they could evade immediate returns.
