The draw for the 19th edition of the Handball Club World Championship, scheduled for July 22 in Basel, has placed Mountada Derb Sultan among the elite. This Casablanca-based club has become the second Moroccan team, following KACM in 1997, to compete in this prestigious tournament. The International Handball Federation has confirmed the participation of ten teams in the 2026 edition, which will take place from September 24 to October 1 in Egypt. Among these teams, Mountada Derb Sultan stands out as the representative of Moroccan handball at this high level of competition. The club will face formidable opponents such as FC Barcelona, the six-time champion and current titleholder, Füchse Berlin, Al Ahly, Burgan SC from Kuwait, and E.C. Pinheiros from Brazil. Notably, Mountada Derb Sultan is seeded in Pot 2 of the draw, alongside the Egyptian host club, Al Ahly.
This participation is a historic milestone, nearly thirty years after KACM's appearance, as Morocco re-enters the global handball arena.
