NARSA Introduces New Standardized Vehicle Registration Plates in Morocco
The National Road Safety Agency, known as NARSA, has unveiled a new standardized model for vehicle registration plates intended for use both within Morocco and internationally. This initiative is part of a broader effort to unify vehicle registration processes and alleviate practical challenges associated with existing regulatory provisions, especially during international travel. The announcement was made on August 10, 2026, following the publication of Minister of Transport and Logistics decision number 640.26, which amends the previous decision on vehicle registration issued in 2010.
The new regulation outlines specific requirements regarding the shape and dimensions of the registration plates that must be used domestically and abroad. This change aims to resolve operational issues stemming from discrepancies between the design of plates used for international travel and those required within Moroccan territory. NARSA has emphasized that the current registration plates can continue to be used for vehicles already registered under the existing normal series until the first ownership transfer takes place.
For vehicles registered in the normal series that are utilized for international travel, the existing plates displaying Latin characters and the emblem indicating the Kingdom of Morocco (MA) will remain valid until December 31, 2026. After this date, vehicles must transition to the newly standardized model. Furthermore, starting from the date of the decision's announcement, the new plate design will be mandatory for all newly registered vehicles acquired in Morocco or imported, whether new or used.
NARSA has called upon all manufacturers of vehicle registration plates to adhere strictly to the provisions set forth in decision number 640.26, ensuring that the plates are produced in accordance with the specified shapes and dimensions as outlined in the regulation.
