National Geographic Endurance Arrives in Funchal

The National Geographic Endurance, a polar expedition cruise ship, made a stop in Funchal on Monday, hosting 147 passengers and a crew of 105. The vessel, which arrived at approximately 6:15 AM from Agadir, Morocco, is scheduled to remain in Funchal until 6:00 PM before continuing its journey to Santa Cruz de La Palma in the Canary Islands.

This excursion is part of the National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions partnership, which offers unique expedition cruises that blend tourism with scientific exploration. Passengers onboard have the opportunity to engage with experts, including biologists, historians, and photographers, enhancing their experience with educational insights during their travels.

The cruise began on Thursday in Lisbon and has included stops in Portimão, Casablanca, and Agadir, before reaching Madeira. After Funchal, the itinerary includes further exploration of the Canary Islands, specifically La Palma and Tenerife, followed by a visit to Cape Verde, specifically the islands of Fogo and Santiago. The journey is set to conclude on October 20 in Dakar, Senegal.

This marks the third visit of the Endurance to Madeira and the second time it has docked at the Port of Funchal, having previously made a technical stop three miles off the coast in October 2021, and its inaugural visit to the port occurred in April 2024. Upcoming visits to the Port of Funchal include the Celebrity Apex and Spirit of Adventure scheduled for Wednesday.
